Why we created the Career Readiness Program?

Career Readiness Program

82% aren't getting the support they want

54% never receive support they need

Sadly, this is a common story.

We created this program after speaking with students, parents, and reflecting on the needs from my previous clients. Here’s a snippet of what they had to say:

Students, “I’m not really sure what I want or of my options, it’s all overwhelming and it makes me want to not engage in the process. Plus, I hope I figure things out before graduate. Isn’t that what most people do?” Feeling overwhelmed and lost about taking ownership of their career and college choices, this lack of awareness and decision fatigue can cost students in failed semesters, delayed graduations, and resentment on their college/education experience.

Parents, “I keep my [kid] busy with in-school and after-school activities, I know that’ll be helpful during the college process. But, I am constantly worried how they’ll manage themselves during the years out of the house. I hope I prepared them enough. I want them to know they have support and options, and hope they can advocate for themselves.” Feeling concerned, anxious, and hopeful is a common trait, but the mission is the same “I want my [kid] to succeed.” Giving them a leg up in this process can make a world of difference within the first year of independence, to 10 years after the program because they’ll build robust skills to navigate through the tough times, while feeling confident about their decision.

Previous clients, “I wish I received the support early in my education/career so I wouldn’t be so unhappy, and frustrated with my career progression.” A overwhelming regret that their lives could have been easier and better if they were prepared earlier in life. A correction that is costly later in life, but crucial for personal and professional success.

70% are overwhelmed with options

51% lose confidence

Avg GPA falls during the first year (B-)

First year of college sets students up for success or struggle. On average, the student’s GPA falls to a “B-minus” because of the complexities and difference between collage and high school.

High school is a structured environment, where your students they are familiar with the culture, environment, people, process, etc. They see the same classrooms, teachers, friends, support system, etc. As they transition to newer environment of University, they have outside of their home comforts and into the deep end of figuring out everything, and more challenging if they are attending an University outside of their lived State/city, these have a compounding effect on the student leading to 70% feeling overwhelmed by how to care for themselves while making life change decisions about major, support system, groups, causes, etc. while making few friends and navigating independence for the first time.

This creates complex experiential and emotional journey for the graduate, creating a new level of adjustment, support, and as a result most feel overwhelmed, lose their confidence, and imbalanced coping skills, leading to lower grades, extended graduations, financial burden, etc. Plus, the lower GPA in the beginning means they’ll feel anxious and struggle to improve their grades all throughout, but with supportive program they can easy into their first year and have a more comfortable collage and career experience.

408 Students to 1 counselor in high school

1250 students to 1 counselor in college

To complicate matters, and widen the support gap, students in high school had “easier” access to a counselor, guidance counselor, academic advisor, etc. Statistics show that for every 1 high school counselor, there are 408 students, leading to 54% of students never receiving proper support.

Students move through their high school with little to no guidance on career development, or they continue to feel overwhelmed and lost during the last few years of High School. Schools and students need more support and earlier guidance.

In college, that ration triples – for each student counselor there are 1250 college students – creating a wider gap in getting support. Often, it’s shielded by “college success” class to help them manage something, and the answer gets to “ask for help”, without address the blatant gap of asking for help and receiving it. College counselors will have waitlists to support students, some even two semesters long. This delay in support further creates more anxiety, reduces confidence, and students feel they are part of the system that keeps the higher education running without getting adequate support.

Your graduate is our #1 priority

Best Career Coach Service

Building confidence, addressing support gaps, and creating community

The gaps in support are severe, leading to more young adults not achieving their full potential, often returning to live at home and accepting remedial jobs that aren’t aligned with their college degrees.

We know our graduates want to graduate and start creating their personal and professional success. They will take pride in their contribution while living a more balanced life because they didn’t have to struggle through college to figure out what they wanted, and then return for higher education to actually do what they want, or live a life of less meaningful jobs to pay the bills.

We created the program to support students build a healthier career and life – Imagine a head-start program for adulthood.

We believe by supporting students during these transformative years, they’ll experience fewer setbacks in adulthood and live a more balanced life.
